This is an exceptional opportunity for a distinguished and visionary leader to drive the research area of the Department of Family Medicine to become the foremost engine of scientific discovery and research career development. The overall goal is the translation and implementation of this scientific discovery to advance health at UTMB.
The Opportunity
The inaugural Vice Chair of Research serves as a leader in advancing the research mission of the Department, with particular focus on enhancing the pipeline of researchers and increasing extramural funding. The Vice Chair will be responsible for setting and guiding the research agenda for the Department, leading various research initiatives, and mentoring faculty and resident physicians. Reporting to the Department Chair, Kendall Campbell, MD, the Vice Chair will serve as part of the departmental leadership team along with the Vice Chairs of Education and Clinical Operations.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader with a penchant for creative thinking and a proven ability to build and guide teams. Research experience or expertise in the areas of Health Equity, Social Determinants of Health, Diabetes, Obesity, Hypertension, or Behavioral Medicine would be ideal. Experience with clinical trials, quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods study design is preferred, as is extramural funding in a personal program of research. The Vice Chair will have academic credentials for an appointment as an Associate Professor or Full Professor (Tenure Track). MD, DO, MD/PhD or PhD required.
