The Department of Medicine is seeking a motivated Staff Research Associate II with a strong background in cell biology, molecular biology, and animal research techniques. You will play a key role in designing and conducting experiments using animal models (mice), mammalian cell cultures, and immortalized cell lines, employing techniques like live cell imaging, Western blots, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and confocal imaging. You will also handle DNA and RNA isolation, PCR-based genotyping, RT-qPCR, and other essential molecular biology methods. In this position, you will work independently and with the supervisor to design, execute, and analyze experiments while maintaining organization in the lab, managing equipment and reagents, and ensuring safe disposal of biohazards. Additionally, you will support mouse-based experiments, help establish and maintain mouse colonies, and train and mentor laboratory volunteers and personnel.
Hourly range: $28.88-$46.46
Qualifications
Required:
Strong foundation and training in Molecular and Cell Biology or related field.
Good work ethics, strong communication skills, honesty and ability to work well as part of a collaborative research team.
Knowledge of basic laboratory safety and protocol creation.
Experience using basic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, PCR machines, pH meter, balances and microscopes).
General knowledge of chemistry and meticulous preparation of reagents.
Previous experience working in a laboratory setting is a must. Conducting research experiments and documenting experiments will be required.
Knowledge of basic cell and molecular biology techniques.
Must be responsible and able to work independently and to supervise students.
Knowledge of PC computers, spreadsheets and word processing programs to perform basic technical duties such as logging in reagents and data analysis.
Motivated individual who can maintain a positive and supportive attitude.
Preferred:
Previous experience with imaging, confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry
Understanding of University procedures and policies for working with biohazards, hazardous chemicals and their disposal.
Experience with image processing and quantitative data analysis.
Previous experience with mouse breeding, handling and tissue collection.
