You Will Be Responsible For:
The Research Scientist – Cardiac Muscle Metabolism is responsible for leading the development and conduct of translational research at the Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI-MD) and participating in Industry/NIH/Pharmaceutical and government sponsored and investigator initiated research that supports the TRI-MD scientific research plan. The Research Scientist is responsible for developing and implementing a research program and projects in heart muscle and energy metabolism at the whole body, tissue and cell/molecular level and provides material assistance to scientific and clinician efforts in performing protocol specific tasks. The Research Scientist ensures all research performed under their direction is in compliance with all Florida Hospital, policies and procedures and local, state and federal laws. Activities include performance of duties that meet all standards, and practices required of procedural environments and facilities at FH, TRI-MD and affiliated institutions. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
What You Will Need:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
MD and/or PhD in Biomedical Sciences
A minimum of three years of post-doctoral experience in muscle metabolism, energy metabolism or related fields if PhD.
Established competency in research as evidenced by published (peer reviewed) research.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of all regulatory requirements that pertain to clinical/medical research.
Knowledge of the development and operation of clinical and basic science research protocols.
Biochemical assay methodologies
proven history of research in the areas of cardiovascular or metabolic research.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
Knowledge or experience in investigator initiated research in a clinical - translational research setting.
Assists with design, construction and implementation of translational research proposals, protocols, and procedures
Analyzes research data in collaboration with Biostatisticians and TRI-MD faculty
Prepares scholarly manuscripts and final study reports (where applicable) to communicate results of the research to the broader scientific community
Supervises data collection by TRI-MD Research Core staff including, but not limited to, Clinical Operations, Energy Metabolism, Clinical Research Unit, BioRepository and Biomarker Discovery and Development Unit
Develops novel analytics to study human cardiac function and metabolism
Participates in scientific presentations and publication of research data
Prepares research grant applications
Fosters and supports external academic and research collaborations
Collects and stores of tissue samples and biospecimens
Coordinates and performs tissue and biospecimen analysis using biochemical assay techniques in conjunction with the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute
Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the scientific director, administrative director or program lead.
